Following the restructuring exercise carried out by the Director-General, aimed at repositioning the Agency to respond more efficiently to the national aspirations on food security, job/wealth creation, affordable medical care, sustainable environment and support for the growth of industries/entrepreneurship among the youths in Nigeria. The following programmes are being pursued and achievements made:

1. Development of Improved Crops and Economic Trees Using Biotechnology Tools.

Genetic improved crop of 5 crops cowpea, cassava, bt-corn,
bt-cotton, biofortified sorghum

2. The Completion of Containment Facility for Contained Trials of Transgenic Crops.

3. Development of Improved Breeds of Animals for Livestock Industry including Domestication of Wild varieties.
The livestock improvement programme in Cattle, Goat & Sheep; develop varieties  with capacity to grow fast,meatier and produce large volume of richer milk for our ailing diary industry through genetic improvement of our local breeds.
4. Establishment of North Central, North East, and North West Bioresources Development Centres (BIODEC), at Idofin Isanlu, Kogi State, Jalingo, Taraba State, Katsina, Katsina State South East, Arochukwu, Abia State and Ode, Ogun State, South West.
