The National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA), Thursday, held the maiden meeting of the Governing Board of the Agency, from 12th -14th April, 2018. According to the Chairman of the Board and Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Dr. (Mrs) Amina Mohammed Bello Shamaki, mni, the meeting was necesitated by the inauguration of the Board on the 8th March,2018 by the Honourable Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu following the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR. Dr. Shamaki stated that the primary role of the Board is to provide proper guidance and oversight structure for the Agency.She emphasized that the Governing Board is to drive general policy formulation for the implementation of the Management team of the Agency as guided by the Government Circular Ref. No. SGF.OP/1/S.3/T.1/142 of 2nd August 1999 and Guides to Administrative procedure in the Federal Public Service. Dr. Amina M.B. Shamaki, mni, described the NABDA Board creation as epoch-making and one in the myriads of impactful measures taken by the administration of President Buhari to add value to governance by ensuring that the change mantra is internalized by organs of Government. She reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the general well-being of Nigerians through its numerous interventions in all sectors of Nigeria. The NABDA Board Chairman, charged Board members to bring their vast experiences to bear on sustenance and effective implementations of the various laudable programmes, projects and innovations of NABDA.She added that Science, Innovation and Technology (STI) remains the surest and essential tool to fast-track socio-economic development of nations, hence a very important tool for the successful actualization of the aspirations of the current administration. The seventeen-man Board had the following members in attendance: Dr. (Mrs) Amina Mohammed Bello Shamaki, mni, (Chairman), Arch. Isaac A. Babatunde (Deputy Chairman), Mr. Famous Danemugha, Hon. Lawal Aliyu K. Namoda, Mrs Karima I. Babangida (Institutional Representative, Ministry of Agriculture) Dr Ngozika Bibilari (Institutional Representative, Ministry of Health), Baba Saleh Damagun (Institutional Representative, Ministry of Interior),Alhaji Bello Badamasi (Institutional Representative, Ministry of Trade & Investment)Arch. Iyogun Izebere John(Institutional Representative, Ministry of Finance), Mr. Agoro Olayiwola (Institutional Representative, Ministry of Science & Technology) and Abayomi Oguntunde (Secretary) and Overseeing Director-General, NABDA.
