VISION- To ensure significant grassroots empowerment of the Niger Delta region through profitable exploitation of bioresources

MISSION – To develop local capacity for efficient and effective research & development, field trials and promotion of biotechnology processes and value added products towards diversifying the Nation’s economy

OVERALL MANDATE

• Preservation and provision of bioresources for scientific, industrial, agricultural, environmental and medical R&D and applications
• Utilization of local bioresources to perform R&D activities, including preservation of the nation’s ecological biodiversity
• Development and propagation of technologies and databases that promote effective use of biological materials
• Establishment of repositories for biological resources for protection of intellectual property rights
• Promotion in order to popularize commercial production of renewable bioresources; including the distribution of bioresource materials for public information and policy formulation
• Provision of bio-enterprise consultancy services to existing and prospective farmers

KEY PROJECTS
GOAL – Mobilization and deployment of biotechnology tools for harnessing and ex-situ development of bioresources towards promoting rural-level economic activities
OBJECTIVE – A step for a national focus on the application of modern biotechnology practices in the discovery, development and strengthening of biological resources for sustainable utilization, transformation and integration into production strategy to achieve national food security, improved health and conducive environment.
